Our History
WCOBA's Journey
In 1983, the Westchester Corrections Officers Benevolent Association (WCOBA) was formed after the riot at the Westchester County Jail in 1981. Since its inception, WCOBA has continually fought for all officer benefits, not just at work but also for a better quality of life in general. WCOBA was the driving force behind many achievements, including pioneering the 25 years of service and no age requirement pension plan for its members. Following this legislative victory, many other unions lobbied for and succeeded in obtaining this career-changing benefit.
Another notable and trend-setting legislative victory occurred during the 2023 session, when WCOBA members, led by President Neil Pellone, successfully lobbied at the state level for pension death gamble rights. This ensured benefits for officers' families in the event that an officer passes away while on active duty.
WCOBA and its leadership remain steadfastly dedicated to the daily fight to uphold our members' rights, while continually advancing our goals through constant advocacy and hard work.
With gratitude and respect,
Neil Pellone
